Ready is built on blockchain technology, but you do not need to understand how blockchains work to use the app. Much of the technical complexity happens in the background.
What is a crypto wallet?
A crypto wallet is a tool that lets you access and manage funds that exist on a blockchain.
The funds themselves are not stored inside your phone or inside the Ready app. They exist on the blockchain. Your wallet gives you a secure way to access them and approve transactions, such as sending money or making a payment.
You can think of the wallet as the account you use to interact with your funds.
What does self-custodial mean?
Crypto wallets can be custodial or self-custodial.
With a custodial service, a company controls access to your funds on your behalf.
Ready is self-custodial. This means you remain in control of your Ready account and the funds held in it. Ready does not hold your money for you and cannot independently move or spend it.
Self-custody gives you more control over your funds, but it also means that keeping your account secure is important.
How does Ready work?
Ready accounts are built on Base, a blockchain network designed for fast and low-cost transactions.
Under the hood, Ready uses Safe smart contract accounts and a technology called Account Abstraction.
A traditional crypto wallet is usually controlled by a single private key. A smart contract account can include additional rules and features directly in the account itself.
This gives Ready more flexibility to make blockchain accounts easier to use without requiring you to manage all of the technical details yourself.
