Ready has introduced a new wallet recovery system to make recovering your wallet simpler and more reliable.
Instead of relying on encrypted recovery kit files stored in Google Drive or iCloud Drive, the new recovery system uses encrypted key storage powered by Turnkey.
Your wallet remains fully self-custodial throughout the process. Neither Ready nor Turnkey can access your wallet, private keys, or funds.
What's changing?
Previously, recovering your wallet required an encrypted recovery kit file stored in your cloud storage.
With the new recovery system:
- You no longer need to manage or back up recovery kit files.
- Wallet recovery is simpler and more reliable.
- Lost or outdated recovery kit files are no longer an issue.
- Your wallet remains fully self-custodial.
If you previously saved an encrypted recovery kit file, it will no longer be used after you complete the security upgrade and can be safely deleted.
What is Turnkey?
Turnkey is a wallet infrastructure provider that helps securely manage the encrypted components required for wallet recovery.
For Ready, Turnkey stores only your Key Encryption Key (KEK). The KEK is used to encrypt your wallet's recovery data and cannot be used to access your wallet or your funds.
Turnkey never stores your private keys or seed phrase.
What is stored?
Turnkey manages your Key Encryption Key (KEK), which is used to encrypt your wallet's recovery data. This creates an encrypted bundle that's securely stored on Ready's backend.
When you recover your wallet on a new device, verification of your email address allows your Ready app to access both components and recover your wallet.
Neither Ready nor Turnkey can access your private key or your funds.
Where is my private key?
Your private key is stored on your device in encrypted form and never leaves your device in plain text.
It is only transmitted after being securely encrypted as part of the wallet recovery process.
Does Ready have access to my wallet?
No.
Ready cannot access your private keys or your funds.
Your wallet remains self-custodial, meaning only you can authorize transactions or recover your wallet.
Do I have to upgrade?
Yes.
The new recovery system replaces the previous cloud-based recovery method. Upgrading ensures you can continue to recover your wallet using the latest security model.
