Per multiple requests we are removing cloud backups for your encrypted recovery kits for account recovery offchain.
The upgraded recovery will be available on
- Starting December 2025 on Android
- Starting January 2026 for iOS users
What does it mean?
- We are improving recovery process as the file based backups caused issues with users losing them, and some users prefer to not use Google Drive or iCloud Drive
- Ready introduces Turnkey as the security provider for key encryption key (KEK) storage.
- Your account remains fully self-custodial and neither Ready nor Turnkey will ever have access to your account or funds.
- Once you upgrade your account security, the encrypted recovery kit file(s) you have stored on cloud will no longer be used, they can be deleted.
- The recovery experience will be smoother and you will no longer encounter issues with the outdated or lost recovery kit file.
How to recover with the new flow?

Install Ready app on your mobile:
- Tap Get started.
- Use the email you have associated with your Ready account - if you have the same email on your Google/Apple account, you can choose the corresponding connect option. You will be prompted to verify the email if you choose Continue with email.
- If there is an account associated with the email, you will be prompted to authorize the new device. Follow the onscreen steps to start the recovery.
- You might be asked to verify email once more and complete other 2FA verification steps you have set for your account.
- The recovery will take 48 hours.

What is Turnkey?
Do I have to upgrade? Why?
Yes. The security upgrade provides better, decentralized security for your assets. Upgrading from storing your encrypted recovery files on cloud to the newer security model will improve both your wallet security and recovery experience.
What if I have Argent Vault?
The security upgrade is for Ready account only, not for Argent Ethereum Vault.

What if I have Ready Wallet (browser extension)?
The security upgrade is for Ready mobile account only, not for Ready Wallet.

What is stored and where?
Turnkey manages your Key Recovery Kit (KRK), which is used to encrypt your seed phrase. This creates an encrypted bundle that’s securely stored on Ready’s backend.
Verification via your email address allows your Ready app to access both parts and recover the wallet on the new device.
Does this mean Ready has access to my private keys?
No. Neither Turnkey nor Ready can access your seed phrase at any point. Your seed phrase lives only on your device and is never transmitted unless it’s securely encrypted first.
So where is my private key in the end of the day?
It is stored on your device encrypted and never leaves it in plain text.
What if my email is compromised?
There is a security period of 48 hours during which you can cancel the recovery. You will receive emails regarding the account recovery process.
It is also recommended you enable phone 2FA for your account, which will add extra security layer to your account.
In future more 2FA options will be added.
